Cold Snap

Yesterday: -17 C with -29 C windchill. Biked to UPS Store and then to Co-op, and then from Co-op back home. Was relatively OK on the trip there. Took a spin out by Promontory Point after going to the Co-op, and quickly regretted it, especially after being pummelled by the winds in the wind tunnel formed by the lakefront condos. Going home was horrible. While my core body temperature was acceptable, my fingers have never felt so cold in my life, despite being encased in my Patagonia insulated Gore-Tex mountaineering gloves. If they would only go numb, it wouldn’t be so miserable, but I could feel them all the way, seemingly swollen and aching to the bone. Toes were cold too but those don’t seem to hurt. Vowed not to go out of the house for 24 hours after that.

Today: -15C with -22 C windchill. Did go out of the house after all, in order to print something at the Reg. Feels warm compared to yesterday, so that I was content to stroll slowly.
